Configuring Shipping for the Cart
To begin selling shippable items through the cart, follow these steps:
- Determine what shipping options you would like to offer (USPS, Fedex, UPS, etc.).
- For each shipping option you would like to offer, determine a Short Name. When there are multiple shippable items on a cart, SOLO Server will match on the Short Name across cart items for matches, so it is important to determine your Short Name values early and use them consistently going forward, since if no matches are found, customers will not be able to complete checkout and will instead see an error message noting that shipping is misconfigured.
- Next, determine and set the shipping calculation method, which is detailed in Configuring Cart Options.
- Finally, for each shippable product option:
- Edit the option and check the Requires Shipping checkbox.
- Add all applicable Shipping Options. When viewing the option, scroll to the bottom of the page and click the Shipping tab. Click the Add New Shipping Option button to add new shipping options. Be sure to use the Short Names determined previously. Ideally, you should ensure that in addition to the Short Name, all other shipping settings match, however this is not a requirement - in the case where there are mismatches, SOLO Server will either choose the top value alphabetically for text values, or the more restrictive value for the Allow Military/Allow PO Box settings.
- Once all shippable items are configured with shipping options, the final step is to test to ensure there are no misconfigurations. The easiest way to do this is to add the first shippable item to a shopping cart and proceeding through checkout to the shipping page. On the shipping page, ensure all expected shipping options appear. Then, use the View Cart link to open a new window, and then work through and add each additional shippable item to the cart one at a time, refreshing the shipping page after each item is added and ensuring all shipping options continue to appear.
